A New Book!

August was a blur of school prep and getting our school year kicked off. Oh, we also took a trip to see our oldest daughter and son-in-law in another state. We are now on week 3 of the new school year and our schedule is working pretty well.

Except for today, of course. TODAY our college daughter had a flat tire, I fell in the driveway, and our whole day has been a big plan B.

But I didn't bring you here to tell you that. Today I am happy to announce MY NEW BOOK!

There isn't an official title yet, but this book was actually written about 15 years ago. I wrote it for my oldest daughter, who was about 8 or 9 at the time. I was always pleased with the story, but really just intended it to be for my kids to read. Using the best 2008 technology available to me, I typed the story up, printed it out, and glued it onto neon card stock. Using our fancy digital camera, we took some photos, printed them on printer paper, and glued them on as well. I finished it off with a hole punch and yarn.

When my husband and I first started talking about me actually becoming an author (the kind with real published books!), I knew I wanted to publish this story. However, there are a few things to be addressed:

  1. One of the characters doesn't actually belong to me, so she must be changed.

  2. There is a character with a certain ancestry that I want to be accurate with, which requires some research.

  3. Fifteen years changes things. I found a small part that is something people don't do anymore. I can change that.

  4. There is a small plot hole that my 8-year-old daughter wasn't worried about, but it bothers me.

  5. The photographs will not be used, so I'll have to figure out how I want it to be illustrated.

  6. I used several family names throughout just to amuse her, but those will be changed as well.

  7. We CLEARLY didn't have Grammarly back then. My word.

So, I have my work cut out for me. This is not a picture book like Cassie, Who is Sometimes Sassy, but a short, easy chapter book. Therefore there are a lot more words to worry with. I am so excited for this project and I'm already assembling my team of employees.

  1. Me

  2. Me

  3. Also me

  4. An editor

  5. Oh, and me

I will be keeping my subscribers up to date on the progress of this project, as well as getting your input for some decisions that need to be made! I hope you will join me on this journey.

Happy to be back to "authoring",
