Grabbing Time

My long-term goal is to be an author. A writer. I mean, technically I already am one, but I'd like to be the kind of author that makes money for a living.

Goals.

That means I need to spend time writing every day. I need to consider it a part-time job. My full-time job is homeschooling, but that doesn't pay very well. With only one child in my school this year, I thought I might have time to write.

If you don't block that time out, something else will eat it up. We all know this. Still, that's easier said than done. I recently got a little side table to keep my laptop on by my chair in the living room. That way, anytime I sit down, the computer is there and ready to go. And it has really helped! I have gotten more writing done than usual. It's still in bits and snatches, but I'll take it.

The other thing that helps is carrying my laptop with me when I go places. You never know when you will have a chance to do some writing while waiting somewhere. For example, I'm currently sitting on a cold concrete floor in a hallway at the museum while my daughter takes a science class.

The writing life is nothing if not glamorous.

I was up later than usual last week when inspiration struck. It was far too late for strikes of inspiration, by the way. However, my mind didn't get that message, and that is how I came to start writing a new book at 11:30 p.m. I can't wait to share it with you!

This book is not a children's book. And it's like nothing I've ever done before. It's so exciting. Writing is the fun part. There are other parts, like researching legal stuff, copyright information, and third-party rights. Those parts are not as fun, but necessary.

Off to write and research and do author-y things!
